Mary Moss (otherwise Smith,

later Mary Pratley)1857 - 1890

Mary (earlier name Smith) Moss who was sentenced to ten days in prison was baptised 4 January 1857 in Ascott.

 

She was the illegitimate daughter of Eliza Smith who had been born in Ascott in 1834. In 1863 Eliza married Thomas Moss and Mary had two step siblings, George Thomas and Jane.

 

Mary married George Pratley on 20 September 1875. George was a gardener who had been born in Leafield in 1855. The couple had nine children, six boys, George Thomas, Charles, Henry, Walter, Alfred and Edward, and three girls, Mary Jane, Fanny and Maria.

 

Mary died shortly after giving birth to Edward who was buried with her on 17 February 1890.
