Martha Smith’s Quilt
This traditional patchwork quilt was made by Martha Smith, one of the ringleaders in the incident. It is said that she worked on the quilt whilst in prison, and that it was later completed by her daughter, Ellen Beauchamp.
The quilt is now in the care of the People’s History Museum in Manchester. It is here seen displayed at the Oxfordshire Museum, Woodstock in 2018, alongside a newly created hanging textile made a group of local women, guided by a Workers Educational Association tutor and inspired by the story of the Martyrs.
